The unclothed body is a canvas in itself for various contrary emotions. And the end result in appalling and alluring as it can be repellent and unpleasant.

My preferred masters of the nude
Raphael Santi, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, 1483 – 1520
Raphael went to Rome in 1508 where Pope Julius II asked him to help with redecoration in the Vatican Palace.
Raphael got his first commission, the ceiling of the Stanza Della Segnatura. After his death, Raphael continued with the full support of his successor Leo X.
The famous Nude Drawings of Raphael can be used as an example for artists.
Raphael carried out also a number of commissions for private patrons.
I had the opportunity to visit the Vatican and the Vatican Museum. Please go to Rome and visit the great museum!!
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 1864 – 1901
We had visit his house in France, where he spent his childhood, Chateau du Bosc. We got a guided tour by his niece. Watch the video and read more about the youth of Toulouse-Lautrec.
Toulouse-Lautrec was not a melancholy and depraved genius, the scanalouse hero of fin-de-siecle Paris pictured by script writers and the true aim of his life found in realization in his work.
He was never the champion of abstract artistic theories and although his fame as a draftsman and painter is great. Here you find an unique and COMPLETE collection of nude drawings and paintings of Toulouse-Lautrec.
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec made the big change in drawing techniques, followed by many, many artists.
We made a video about our visit to the Musee Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi, France.
Jules Pascin, 1885 – 1930
All evidence points to the fact that Pascin was a man singled out by fate as well as by genius.
Like Picasso and Van Dongen, Pascin was barely twenty when he stepped down from the train that brought him from Munich to Paris. He was already a familiar name before he arrived in Paris. Read more about Colony of German artists in Paris.
Pascin made plenty of watercolors, nude drawings, sketches, and caricatures. He was in the beginning of 20th century a well-known artist in Paris.
Pascin left France abruptly before the Great War. He went to America and remained until 1920. In the United States he was a star!
Nowadays Pascin has a bit forgotten and why? He was a brilliant artist of the nude!
Artists who have formed nude art
Peter Paul Rubens, 1577 – 1640
In Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, I have studied two of his sketches, so called crabbelingen. I recognized a very precised artist.
He went 6 times to Rome to built up an archive with sketches from statues.
Rubens is still wellknown because of his techniques. The base for artists. The art teacher Courmon teached Vincent van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec at the end of the 19th century to use these art techniques.
Rubens was master of a great art studio at Antwerp, as Raphael was in Rome.
Edgar Degas, 1834 – 1917
This artist is best known for his studies of the nude human figure, his ballet dancers, his portraits and his occupational groups.
In his nude drawings, Degas’working methods can be seen and studied and his always human figures can be enjoyed as much if not more than in finished works.
He made copies of Raphael art work and studied the art work of Ingres and Delacroix. He loved to discuss ways to act in the modern world.
I’m pleased to have visited the famous exhibition Degas and the nude.
