International Naturist Federation about Naturism
Naturism being natural, the International Naturist Federation seeks to promote a return to a more natural and healthier way of life as regards health, the environment and food.
The International Naturist Federation watches over Naturism, aware that the latter's universal recognition will only succeed given strong foundations. Therefore the Naturists defined Naturism as stated below, at their 1974 International Naturist Federation World Congress held in Agde, France:
"Naturism is a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterized by self-respect of people with different opinions and of the environment."
Social nudity constitutes an essential characteristic of naturism, fully exploiting the beneficial effects of the sun, the air and water.
Naturism restores the balance between physical and psychic dimensions, with leisure spent in a natural environment, through exercising the body, within the fundamental principles of hygiene and dietetics. Furthermore, Naturism fosters many activities by nurturing creativity.
The many forms of naturism
Each country produces a specific naturism, and each Naturist Association or club has its own nature, just like the people in them. There are associations, most of whom have their own premises, in almost all the International Naturist Federation's member states. The sites cover the entire range from "the bare bones", i.e. almost "Spartan" sites, to grounds full of luxury and refinement. Nearly all the sites are listed in the International Naturist World Handbook. Many of them are open continuously, all year round. The Naturist Associations and clubs offer numerous possibilities as regards Nude Sports and leisure, for all age groups. Let's also mention the meetings in the evenings, the sauna and swimming hours. A few countries even have commercially run Naturist Camping Areas.
When a few clubs or associations do not own their own premises, their members visit other associations or clubs on week-ends, or other beaches or events organized around swimming pools, in sports halls and saunas.
The National Naturist Federations comprising the associations, clubs and holiday centres of their own country are, in their turn, members of the International Naturist Federation.
